Procedure to become a home stay family

Introduction

The role that you play in hosting international students in your home is a very important factor in the overall experience that international students have when they come to Ottawa. Your safe and secure home as well as welcoming and friendly household will allow the student the luxury of focusing on his or her main purpose for coming to Canada: to learn English. And an important by-product, of course, is the pleasure of  learning about your student’s background and culture.

Requirements
  • to provide a private room, furnished with bed, dresser, closet, desk and chair, sufficient lighting and heat, and if possible, a window;
  • to integrate the student into various aspects of daily, family life, while involving the student in conversation (to the extend possible) and one or two weekend outings.
  • to provide regular home stay meals: daily, two prepared meals (breakfast, dinner), two snacks, and on school days, a “bag lunch.”
  • to be located less than one hour’s trip to Conversa by public transportation.
Application

Please provide a description of your home and all family members and all other individuals residing with you as it relates to general requirements of a home stay family. For each member of your household, include name, age, gender, occupation, education, and other pertinent information. Write to us at miralles@conversa.ca or at the following address:
