Level Beginner

Students receive a strong grounding at the beginner level, which is divided into four parts.

Beginner 1
  • Participants will be able to hold simple conversations in terms of greeting people and introducing self and others and describe common objects in a classroom setting.
  • Students will learn the properties of the entire alphabet, including special characters, vowels, diphthongs; the uses of the most common verbs (to be, to have) in the present tense.
  • Students also learn the days, months, seasons, numbers 1-50 initially; names of countries, in which the targeted language is spoken; names and gender of the objects most commonly seen in a classroom.Participants will be able to continue a conversation in simple sentences to the point of describing in a very basic way their homes, families, daily activities (school/work); address a stranger to ask for the time, directions to public services, such as the bank, post office, shopping centre, gas station, pharmacy, etc.; exchange addresses and phone numbers.
  • Students will learn the approx. 20 of the most-frequently used regular verbs in the present tense, as well as numbers from 50-100, names of professions and approx. 50 of the most common characteristics to describe themselves and others..
Beginner 2
  • Students will be able to describe their daily activities beyond the basics, as they learn additional vocabulary and grammar structures.
  • Participants will continue learning verbs in the present tense, be able to express likes and dislikes, and increase their vocabulary to include food and ordering in a restaurant.
  • The conclusion of this segment is celebrated by visiting a local restaurant (where the staff is expecting students to speak only in their targeted language).
  • Students will be able to ask/give opinions, take a trip to the supermarket, and describe situations or events in basic sentences, such as a traffic accident, a meeting, a party
  • Participants learn the simple future tense and vocabulary to shop for groceries and clothes (fabric, colour, designs, styles, prices, payment methods).

At the conclusion of the beginner level, participants will be able to function in the targeted language in most situations of daily living.
